J.M. Hastings has developed a narrative style as innovative as it is unsettling. Blending cinematic prose with horror that shocks and scalds, his work defies literary conventions in favor of bold experimentation, seeking the limits of storytelling.
Raised in Qualicum Beach, Canada—a coastal retirement town where nothing much happens—Hastings found joy cluttering his hard drive with fragmented stories and half-baked worlds throughout high school. Many nights were spent writing to the sound of waves gently cresting across the rocky beach, shaping his signature slow-burn tension. Early interest in Lovecraft and noir tropes inspired him to weave the fear of the unknown with the grit of our darkest impulses.
Personal losses drive his debut novella, The Girl Named Danger. A call for empathy, it critiques society's demonization of the vulnerable with sharp descriptions and heartbreaking transformations, exposing how circumstance can victimize even the strongest of us.
